Plot: As an enslaved person on a remote Georgia plantation owned by its harsh and deranged master, Paul (Keke Palmer), Alice (Saoirse Ronan) longs for escape (Jonny Lee Miller). A fight with Paul sends her running into the woods, where she stumbles onto a highway and learns that it is truly 1973. An activist called Frank (Common) rescues Alice from the roadside and explains to her the falsehoods that have kept her enslaved, as well as the promise of black emancipation. Alice is a narrative of modern empowerment based on real-life occurrences in the post-Civil Rights Era American South.

On a Georgia farm in the late 1800s, a lady named Palmer is made a slave. On the verge of escaping to the outside world, she realizes it's 1973 and encounters a truck driver (Common). So that she might inflict retribution on her harsh previous master, she convinces him to accompany her back to the farm (Miller).
