The Batman is a DC Comics-inspired superhero film set in 2022. It is a reboot of the Batman film series, produced by DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions, and released by Warner Bros. Pictures. Matt Reeves, who co-wrote the script with Peter Craig, helmed the camera. Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, while the cast also includes Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Also, Paul Dano and Jeffrey Wright also feature. While on the hunt for the Riddler (Dano), a serial murderer who preys on Gotham's elite, Batman, who has been combating crime in Gotham City for the last two years, uncovers corruption.
Affleck was cast as Batman in the DCEU, and production began in 2013. However, Affleck had doubts about the film and withdrew from the cast and crew of The Batman after signing on to direct, produce, co-write, and play the title role. When Reeves came over, he rewrote the script and removed any ties to the DC Extended Universe. He drew influence from Alfred Hitchcock's films and the New Hollywood era, as well as Batman comics like "Year One" (1987), "The Long Halloween (1996–97), and "Ego" (2000). As of May of this year, Pattinson has been cast in a number of roles, with more to be filled out by the end of the year. British and American locations were used for principal photography, including both London and Chicago, from January 2020 to March 2021.
The Batman had its global premiere on March 1, 2022, at Lincoln Center in New York City, and was distributed to theaters on March 4, 2022, worldwide. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was twice postponed from its original June 2021 release date. As of February 23, 2022, the film has made approximately $603 million against a $185–200 million budget, making it the second-highest-grossing picture of the year; it was also praised for its actors and photography, while some questioned its duration. There are plans for two sequels and two spin-off television shows for HBO Max as part of a Batman-shared world.
The Batman Story
On Halloween, the Riddler assassinates Gotham City mayor Don Mitchell Jr. Bruce Wayne, the reclusive millionaire who has been operating as vigilante Batman for the last two years, works with the Gotham City Police Department on these investigations (GCPD). However, when Lt. James Gordon discovers a note the Riddler left for Batman, Commissioner Pete Savage berates him and has Batman leave the crime scene. As soon as Savage is killed, the Riddler murders him and leaves Batman with another message.
The Riddler left Mitchell's car with a thumb drive with photographs of Mitchell and Annika Koslov from the Iceberg Lounge, a nightclub run by the Penguin, a subordinate of gangster Carmine Falcone. Meanwhile, Batman notices that Annika's roommate and close friend, Selina Kyle, is working as a waitress at the club. After he follows her home to interrogate Annika, Batman sends Selina back to the Iceberg Lounge to look for answers. Selina reveals to Batman that Savage is on Falcone's payroll, as well as Gil Colson, the district attorney. When Batman questions Selina about her friendship with Falcone, she cuts off all communication.
Colson is kidnapped by the Riddler, who places a timed collar bomb around his neck and then sends him to disrupt Mitchell's memorial service. If Colson does not answer three riddles before Batman arrives, the Riddler will explode the bomb. There's a third piece of information that Batman can't assist Colson with. The GCPD got information on Salvatore Maroni's drug enterprise thanks to an informant, and Colson refuses to give the identity of that source. He then dies. The Penguin is suspected of being the informant, and Batman and Gordon follow him to a narcotics trade. Maroni's operation has been passed to Falcone, with numerous GCPD personnel engaged, and they learn this. When Selina arrives to take the money, she unwittingly exposes them. Meanwhile, Selina finds Annika's lifeless body hidden in a vehicle trunk while Penguin runs for her life. However, Batman finds that the Penguin was not the informant once he catches him.
Following the Riddler's trail, Batman and Gordon discover that the Riddler has a vendetta against Bruce's slain parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, whose orphanage the Riddler raided. When Alfred Pennyworth opened a mail bomb sent to Bruce, he ended up in the hospital. To make matters worse, after Thomas's death, the Riddler begins leaking evidence that he hired Falcone to assassinate a journalist in order to keep secret information about Martha's history of mental illness. As Bruce's father, Alfred, claims, Thomas simply requested Falcone to intimidate the journalist into silence and meant to give himself and Falcone over to the police once he found out the journalist was murdered, Bruce confronts Alfred, who grew up believing his father was morally upright. Because of this, Alfred is convinced that Falcone ordered the assassinations of Thomas and Martha.
Having learned that Falcone strangled Annika because Mitchell informed her that Falcone was the informant, Selina informs Batman that Falcone is the inattentive father she has always known him to be and vows to murder him. The Riddler murders Falcone just as Batman and Gordon arrive at the Iceberg Lounge, just in time. The Riddler is revealed to be Edward Nashton, a forensic accountant, and is imprisoned at Arkham State Hospital, where he bemoans his failure to assassinate Bruce Wayne. He has no idea that Bruce Wayne, the hero he aspires to be, is actually Batman. The Bats deny working with Nashton since he thinks he's a spy for them both! When Batman searches Nashton's residence, he discovers that the assassination attempt on Mayor-elect Bella Reál has been planned with the use of vehicle explosives across Gotham.
Bombs detonate throughout Gotham, flooding the city. Reál's supporters attempt to assassinate Batman and Selina in an indoor arena, but Batman and Selina stop them. While Selina decides that Gotham is beyond salvation, Nashton forms a friendship with another inmate. [a] At the same time, Batman promises to bring optimism to Gotham.
